3 And A Quarter Inch

Measuring and Fractions

1 Inch. The basic unit of measurement of measurement for dollhouses

This is the inch symbol "

One half inch (1/2")

There are 2 halfs in one inch (1/2 + 1/ii = ane)

Notice the measurement that woould be 3 1/2" (iii and ane half inches)

Ane quarter inch (1/4")

There are 4 quarters in one inch (one/4 + i/4 + 1/iv + 1/4 = 1")
There are two quarters in one one-half inch (1/4 + one/iv = 1/2)

See iii iii/iv"? (3 and three quarters")... find three 1/4"

Eighths of an inch (one/8") In that location are eight of them betwixt each inch marker.

Notice that the i/4" marks (2 eighths) and the i/2" marks (4 eighths) are longer, but they are still counted when counting the spaces for eighths

See 3 5/8"? (3 and five eighths)... discover 4 three/8"

Sixteenths of an inch. At that place are 16 of them between each marking
16/sixteen = one inch

Again notice that you count all of the longer marks. Each stride of the way, you count the marks for that fraction and the longer marks, but not the shorter marks

Where is 3 xv/16? [hint: 3 16/16 = 4", so 3 15/16 is 1/16 less than 4]

Thirtyseconds of an inch - now that's small, but some rulers show them

Each one/16" marking stands for ii i/32" and then 7/32 is the same as
three and one half ane/16" spaces (2 + 2 + 2 + 1)

A measurement of 19/32 would be the same as
nine and one one-half 1/16" spaces
which is the same as one/2" + 1/16" + half of 1/xvi"... tin can you find it?
